Publishers & Providers

Six decades after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ‘human rights’ is one of the major themes of the 21st century, the focus of an ambitious UN World Programme for Human Rights Education, and central to the school and early childhood education curriculum in New Zealand (see, for example, Human rights and the New Zealand Curriculum).

Yet few good classroom resources are readily available, very few human rights teaching and learning resources have been developed specifically for a New Zealand audience, and many dealing with human rights themes do not address ‘human rights’ explicitly.

The same is true of professional development resources for teachers.

We welcome the contributions of producers and suppliers of educational resources to the Human Rights in Education Initiative, and will:

  • provide advice to suppliers and providers
  • direct teachers to quality resources
  • encourage them to share information about ones they find useful.
