Human Rights in Education Trust

The Human Rights in Education Trust was established in October 2007 to facilitate the work of the Initiative as managing partner:

  • acting as the legal entity providing stewardship of the national resources of the Initiative – funds, staff including the Director, HRiE Resource Centre (Wellington Office and webservice)
  • maintaining key stakeholder links, and protecting the identity and integrity of the Initiative.

Incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 (2022687), it is registered by the Charities Commission (CC21672) and has donee status – ie donations of $5 and more are tax deductible.

The Trustees employ the Director.

The current trustees are:

  • Rod Alley (Peace Foundation)
  • Karen Johansen (Human Rights Commissioner, former secondary school principal)
  • Margaret Taylor (Amnesty International)
  • Paul Potaka (Nelson Central School principal)
  • Geoff Plimmer (Victoria Management School, senior lecturer)

The HRiE Trust is supported by the Todd Foundation.
