Description

New Zealand’s founding document, the Treaty of Waitangi, predates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by 108 years. Yet as the English Magna Carta (1215) has general human rights significance, so the Treaty has particular human rights significance in Aotearoa New Zealand. This paper  links the articles of the Treaty to human rights and incorporates discussion on the issues surrounding the rights of indigenous peoples to self-determination.
